A Busy Few Weeks

Back to School

The yard has a start of the new school year feeling around it at the moment with a few new faces, equine and human alike as the horses slowly return from their holidays and start their steady work. We are extremely fortunate to have quiet roads so they begin their training regime walking and trotting around the roads, steadily building up their fitness, bone density and tendon strength before they start cantering.

The horses enjoyed a good break, albeit the weather was not always kind to them, they have summered well, being checked twice a day, morning and evening to ensure they were happy, healthy and relaxed. A couple came back into work early whilst the majority have had their shoes on in the past couple of weeks, staggered to help our farriers, Gordon and Stuart and started their return to fitness.

We have our dentist booked in to give them all their annual check up, Leah and Sarah of Exmoor Equine Dental Services spends a couple of days efficiently working her way around the yard ensuring their teeth are healthy and well maintained. Both have previously worked in the yard and are very much part of Team Scott.

Our homebred 3 year olds have been broken in by Ben Jones and are now enjoying a holiday to continue growing!

Dashel Drasher's full brother learning the ropes!

King's Castle

King's Castle has been a revelation this summer, winning four on the bounce! It is a huge achievement as it is extremely difficult achievement. He has won almost £25,000 in prize money since his first win in May at Warwick and has since won two at Newton Abbot and justified the long journey to Market Rasen with his fourth win. Bryan Carver has been in the saddle for three of his wins, whilst Ben Bromley claimed a useful 5lbs. It has been trickier to find better prize money however a huge credit to Newton Abbot and Market Rasen for keeping the funds up! King's Castle has gone up 19lbs for his efforts however, whilst he's in this good form, he remains competitive.

Fair Dinkum

Bought 12 months ago from the July Sales at Newmarket for 13,500 Gns, Fair Dinkum has proved to be a good fun horse, notching up his second win at Lingfield under Pat Dobbs. He is not the biggest however he has a long stride and plenty of stamina and it has provided Philip's mother Val with some great days out!

Sales Season

This month has also been busy with sales, we kicked off July by selling Pride Of Nepal in the Tattersalls Online Sales and were delighted to find he had been bought by Sarah Bowen to run in Amateur Riders Races. We wish them both the very best of luck in their new partnership which finished fourth at Epsom in the Ladies Rider Derby.

BYE BYE SALAM

Georgina and Laura headed up to Newmark for the July Horses In Training Sales along with Mel Smith. They returned with a smart Frankel colt, Bye Bye Salam out of the Andrew Balding yard who had been purchased for 450,000 guineas as a yearling! He looks an athletic animal with a straightforward character. Our aim is to give him one more run on the flat before going juvenile hurdling with him. He is currently recovering for his gelding operation and having a little holiday.

2021 Gentlewave ex Santera

Mel Smith purchased a well bred Gentlewave filly at the Goffs Doncaster July Sale, consigned by Jess Westwood's Molland Ridge Stud which is now at Ben Jones' to be broken in on behalf of an owner. She is a half sister to Midnight It Is who is rated 139 over fences and out of the tough and sound Santera who was 3rd in a Listed hurdle.

2021 Malinas ex Cloth Fair

Jeremy and Camilla have spent the last few days in Ireland at the Tattersall July Store Sale, returning as one of the top purchases having bought two three year olds who are on their way to Martin Jones' in Gloucestershire. The first was bought on behalf of an owner, a beautiful Malinas gelding, half brother to Cloth Cap and Brideswell Lad for €32,000 on Wednesday. They continued to look for another and purchased a Getaway gelding, half brother to Nina The Terrier and from the family of God's Own and Ginny's Destiny. He is a lovely, tall, rangy horse who looks like he will jump a fence in time. He is available to purchase, please contact us to get involved!
